How to Make an Invisibility Potion in Minecraft
9 October 2026
Add a fermented spider eye to a Night Vision potion to make Invisibility. From scratch, the brewing order is water bottle → nether wart → golden carrot → fermented spider eye. The drinkable effect lasts three minutes, or eight minutes after a redstone upgrade, in both Java and Bedrock.
Ingredients
- A brewing stand, water, one to three glass bottles, one nether wart, and blaze powder for fuel.
- One golden carrot: craft a carrot surrounded by eight gold nuggets.
- One fermented spider eye: craft a spider eye, sugar, and a brown mushroom together.
- Optional redstone dust or gunpowder.
If you already have Night Vision potions, you can start from those instead. An ordinary spider eye is not the same ingredient as a fermented spider eye.
Step-by-step brewing
- Fill up to three bottles with water and put them in the bottom slots.
- Put blaze powder in the left fuel slot and nether wart in the top slot. Wait for Awkward Potions.
- Brew the Awkward Potions with a golden carrot. Confirm the label now says Potion of Night Vision.
- Brew those potions with a fermented spider eye. The result is Potion of Invisibility.
- Add redstone dust to the finished Invisibility potions for eight minutes. Drink one when ready.
Duration and upgrades
| Drinkable potion | Java Edition | Bedrock Edition | Ingredient added to the finished potion |
|---|---|---|---|
| Invisibility | 3:00 | 3:00 | None |
| Extended Invisibility | 8:00 | 8:00 | Redstone dust |
Invisibility has no level II version; glowstone dust cannot make it stronger. To share the effect, add gunpowder to make a splash potion. These times describe drinkable potions: splash duration depends on edition and distance from the impact. Drink a regular potion when you need the predictable full duration.
Java and Bedrock notes
The ingredient order and drinkable durations match in both editions. Invisibility hides your player body, but worn armour and held items remain visible. It is not a guarantee that mobs cannot detect or attack you; equipment and proximity matter. Avoid treating it as a safe way to walk through a crowd of hostile mobs.
Common mistakes and a practical use
Putting a fermented spider eye into water bottles produces Weakness instead of Invisibility. Putting it into an Awkward Potion also skips the required Night Vision stage. Check the bottle name at each step.
Invisibility replaces Night Vision in this recipe; the final drink does not grant both effects. Carry a separate Night Vision potion if you need bright vision too.
For hide-and-seek with friends, agree on equipment rules first: a floating helmet or item can give away your position. Removing armour helps conceal the player but also removes its protection. Use a safe play area and keep armour available before leaving it. Milk removes Invisibility if you want to end the effect early.
For the shared base recipe, Mojang’s Ten Rare Recipes explains using nether wart before an effect ingredient. Microsoft’s potion reference lists regular and long Invisibility as separate potion variants.
