How to Find a Sulfur Cube in Minecraft

8 October 2026

Sulfur Cubes spawn naturally inside sulfur caves. First find a surface sulfur spring, dig safely into the cave below, then search the yellow-and-red chambers for the small or large bouncing mob.

A simple search plan

  1. Follow our steps for finding a sulfur cave.
  2. Light the route so you can see hazards and find your way back.
  3. Search each chamber methodically, including ledges and the edges of shallow pools. These are practical places to look, not documented spawn requirements.
  4. Listen and look for a cube jumping around aimlessly.
  5. Secure the area before approaching; cave spiders also spawn in this biome.

Sulfur Cubes are passive, so an untouched cube is not hunting you. The danger usually comes from the cave, nearby hostile mobs or an experiment that changes the cube’s properties.

How to bring one closer

Hold a block that the cube can absorb. In Java 26.2, a Sulfur Cube can follow a player carrying an acceptable block and can also move towards nearby dropped block items. That makes the block a useful lure, but not ordinary animal food: the cube absorbs it and changes behaviour.

If you want a safer trip home, bring an empty bucket. Java 26.2 explicitly says only a large Sulfur Cube can be collected and that Slime Balls grow small cubes. Bedrock 26.30 confirms bucket transport but does not spell out those prerequisites in its final changelog. See how to put a Sulfur Cube in a bucket for the exact steps.

Beginner safety tips

Build a small temporary pen before experimenting. A wooden block can make the cube fast and highly bouncy, while an icy block makes it slide quickly. Magma makes it hot enough to damage entities on contact, and TNT creates an explosive cube that can be ignited. Those are poor choices while standing beside lava or valuable gear.

If you lose sight of a cube, stop running and check ledges, pools and minecart tracks. Sulfur Cubes cannot enter boats in Java, but they can ride minecarts.
